Finding the Words is our flagship project for people living with dementia, and their carers and families. Over the course of eighteen weeks, we will work with a group of around 10 people (referred to us by Andover Mind’s Carer Support and Dementia Advice Service) to create poetry, music and movement, finishing with a sharing event at The Forge (located in The Anvil) with friends and family.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW...
Location: At the Wellbeing Centre, Basingstoke. Final sharing event at The Anvil
Suitable for: People of any age living with dementia (referred by Andover Mind in 2020) – please get in touch with Andover Mind if you would like to participate: mind@andovermind.org.uk
No. spaces per concert: Preferably 8 - 12 (we will accept up to 15 as we understand that not all members will be able to make every session)
What people will explore: Alongside poetry, music, and movement, creative conversations (which will ensure that the group get the opportunity to share stories), opinions, and meeting new people that will all support improvements in cognitive ability
Benefits for carers, family and friends: It is our intention that, through the 18 weeks of these sessions, participants will be engaged and using creative outlets to help them to live well with dementia. Through evaluating this project, we may be able to find ways to further our offer of support in future
Cost: Free. You will need to arrange transport to and from The Anvil for the final sharing event
The structure is as follows:

---|---|---|
Weeks 1 - 6 | Poetry | Matt L.T. Smith |
