Our first local campaign was victorious in Nottingham, protecting Arts organisations from massive council cuts. Already, even more people have joined this campaign in Basingstoke to oppose the council's cut to Anvil Arts – over 5000 supporters in less than a week. It’s a fantastic start.
Campaign for the Arts
Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council is proposing to cut its investment in The Anvil and The Haymarket by at least 50% - around £400,000. At a time when we have already lost more than £1.4m in income from being closed for over a year, this will have a severely detrimental effect on what we are able to do in the future:
It will damage our ability to deliver our arts and entertainment programme that attracts over 170,000 people a year
It will have an impact on the individuals and organisations working across the already suffering arts and cultural sectors who work with us and benefit from our venues
It will impact our vital community education programme, including our work with young people in schools, supporting people with special educational needs, in care homes, and with people with dementia and their families
