Lorin Maazel 50th anniversary series

Part of a series of concerts in major English and European concert halls to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Lorin Maazel’s first performances with the Philharmonia Orchestra.

The four movements of Fauré’s incidental music to Maeterlinck’s famous play are masterpieces of evocative and lyrical orchestral colour, including a delicate Sicilienne. It’s followed by the chance to hear Lorin Maazel as composer as well as conductor, in a piece written for Rostropovich.
