The Amadeus Suite
featuring Rosario Giuliani with Michael Brandon
“Not content with being probably the greatest trumpet virtuoso that British jazz has ever produced, Guy Barker has grown into a quite phenomenal composer.” The Observer
”This music is witty, fluid, multi-coloured and with a light, deft touch.” BBC Jazz Review
Fresh from a showcase week at Ronnie Scott’s, Guy Barker brings The Amadeus Project to The Anvil with his jazz orchestra that features the finest line-up of musicians yet, including Rosario Giuliani, Byron Wallen and Per "Texas" Johansson.
With a script by thriller writer Robert Ryan, and narrated by actor Michael Brandon, the timeless tale of good and evil in The Magic Flute unfolds in a forties film noir setting. The Amadeus Suite, which follows, presents a series of musical portraits of some of the characters. It may sounds unusual, but it works brilliantly, and contains some of Barker’s very best music to date. Voted Best Album in the 2008 Parliamentary Jazz Awards and with three nominations in this year’s BBC Jazz Awards, this is your only chance in the south to hear it played live.
“You can't fault its ambition, creativity or sheer rumbustiousness…all in all, it's impressive.” BBC Jazz Review
