Beethoven/Fischer/Scotchmer Violin Concerto in C
Richard Strauss Serenade for wind instruments Beethoven Symphony no. 2
Stephen Scotchmer (conductor)
Beethoven started work on his first violin concerto between 1790 and 1792. when he was still living in Bonn. Although the original manuscript of the first movement is incomplete, the musicologist Wilfried Fischer has completed the development and recapitulation of the first movement, based on Beethoven’s initial material. Stephen Scotchmer has composed a final movement for the concerto, using Beethoven’s typical rondo structure and maintaining the instrumentation of the first movement. The composer’s second symphony, written some ten years later than the sketch of this Violin Concerto, will provide an energetic and lively conclusion to this concert
