London Mozart Players
Beethoven Overture: Coriolan
Beethoven Symphony no.4
"It is Kovacevich's ability to capture the profoundly poetic moments in Beethoven that make his interpretations so illuminating."
The Guardian
Beethoven's last complete piano concerto is the most brilliant and powerful, set in his 'heroic' key of E flat. From the stunning first moments, when the piano bursts into a virtuoso passage of arpeggios, scales and trills, the mood of Olympian power is never far away.
The two extrovert outer movements are balanced by the most inward-looking of his concerto slow movements, which moves into the finale with a simple but truly magical transition.
The intense and dramatic overture to Coriolan is followed by the Fourth Symphony which, sandwiched between two more famous neighbours, nevertheless has an atmosphere all its own, from the mysterious slow introduction to the vigorous and joyful finale.
