Debussy’s ground-breaking prelude is a delicate and subtle translation into sound of a lazy summer afternoon. One of three pieces written for his friend the great violinist Sarasate, Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole is full of both seductive melodies and technical invention throughout its five movements.

Rimsky-Korsakov’s orchestral suite takes tales from the Arabian Nights and dresses them in gorgeous, inventive orchestral colours to make a dramatic and satisfying work.
