Mozart           Overture: The Magic Flute
Beethoven    Piano Concerto No. 5 in E flat Major 'Emperor'
Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 in E Minor

Nurry Lee piano
Stephen Scotchmer

The overture to Mozart’s last opera, The Magic Flute, though full of impressive symbolism and lofty spiritual content, nonetheless effervesces with glittering, dancing counterpoint.

Beethoven’s last and arguably greatest piano concerto, The Emperor, was enthusiastically acclaimed, after its first performance, as being “without doubt one of the most original, imaginative, most effective but also one of the most difficult of all existing concertos.”

Brimming with wonderfully orchestrated melodies, Tchaikovsky’s emotionally-charged fifth Symphony has become an all-time favourite and is regarded by many as one of his greatest works.
