Croydon Philharmonic Choir
David Gibson conductor
This powerful and emotional work was composed by Verdi in the aftermath of the loss of a great personal friend, and that feeling of sorrow is explored in the intervening movements of this otherwise textually conventional Latin requiem mass. It was first performed in this country at the Albert Hall, conducted by Verdi himself, with a chorus of over 1,000 and a huge orchestra.
Basingstoke Choral Society is combining with the Croydon Philharmonic Choir to produce its largest choir ever for this major event.
