Anvil Arts is great value

An independent survey has found that Anvil Arts produces a massive economic benefit to Basingstoke. The survey, called The Economic Impact of Anvil Arts, found:

• Anvil Arts contributes £6.2 million per year to the economy of Basingstoke – more than a fivefold return on the Borough Council’s investment

• Anvil Arts supports the equivalent of 123 full time jobs in the Borough, in addition to its own staff

• The audiences that The Anvil and The Haymarket bring into Basingstoke would not visit for any other reason, and spend significant sums in the town while they are here

• Anvil Arts is particularly effective at making its public investment work hard, and converting it to benefit the area.

The study was carried out by BOP Consulting using rigorous methods of calculation approved by HM Treasury for work of this kind to ensure that the resulting figures are reliable.

Christine Bradwell, Chief Executive of Anvil Arts, said: "The benefits Anvil Arts delivers of enhancing the image of the Borough to the wider world, and improving the quality of life for residents, are already widely recognised. This study gives some quantifiable figures to go alongside those benefits to show how successful Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council's investment in Anvil Arts really is."
