Afrosamba at Chiltern Primary School

We held a fun and interactive music workshop at Chiltern Primary School with Brazilian band Afrosamba, a UK based group comprised of musicians from Mozambique and the UK.

They taught the students traditional songs from Mozambique, Brazil, Cape Verde and Cuba whilst introducing them to world music and instruments including the guiro and panderio.
The workshop also explored rhythm and the dynamics and structure of music as the children conducted the band, and used their bodies to create their own samba school.
“It was important that the children had time to listen and enjoy music from other cultures and backgrounds... They loved the music, seeing the instruments played in front of them, and getting a chance to be loud and enthusiastic." Anna Burry, Music Manager and Class 5 teacher.
