History
The Anvil was built by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. Work started in August 1992 and the building opened in May 1994. The quality of the acoustic was the prime consideration throughout the building process, and the auditorium was designed to have near-ideal shape and volume.
“It boasts acoustics as warm as an Italian courtyard.” The Times
“Designed without compromise as an ideal concert hall.” The Observer
“The acoustics [offer] a commendable combination of warmth and clarity.” The Independent
“The acoustics seemed to me well nigh ideal.” The Observer
“A regional venue worth the journey.” The Times

The architects were the Arts Team at RHWL, and the acoustic engineers were Arup Acoustics.
